“Why should I get professional whitening when I can do it myself at home?”
While DIY over-the-counter whitening kits can be effective, professional whitening offers undeniably better results. Here at EvoSmile, we offer Zoom!® by Philips — the leading brand in professional whitening. Our patients like it because it’s safe, effective, convenient, and very fast. Zoom! Whitening | Over-the-Counter Kits |
|---|---|
Up to eight shades whiter in one visit | Take weeks of daily use |
Higher concentration, more powerful gel | Cannot penetrate and lift stains as effectively |
Minimizes sensitivity and protects gums | Often cause irritation |
Uniform brighter shade | Can produce patchy or uneven results |
Tailored treatment intensity | No supervised application |
Often lasts 1 to 3 years with proper care | Last about 2 to 6 months with consistent use |
Keep in mind, whitening only works on your natural enamel. For the best whitening match between your natural teeth and any restoration, Dr. Ochev takes a look at the health of your teeth first. If you need a new restoration or repair (such as a filling or crown), he recommends getting it done after whitening. This way, you give yourself the best chance of a consistent shade that blends in naturally.
We begin by isolating your lips and gums. Then we apply the Zoom! whitening gel, which is activated by a specially designed light. Teeth typically become at least 6 to 8 shades whiter, sometimes more. A five-minute fluoride treatment completes the procedure. In most cases, teeth get even whiter after the first few days.
While professional teeth whitening can last a very long time, it isn’t permanent. You may need a touch-up especially if you smoke, or drink teeth-staining beverages such as coffee, tea, and wine. With proper care and an occasional touch-up, your whiter smile will sparkle for years.
