Dental Crowns (Caps)
DR. IGOR OCHEV, SAN RAFAEL DENTIST

“If I get a dental crown, will it look natural?”

Dental crowns are available in tooth-colored shades and even metals such as gold. A porcelain crown is the most popular because it resembles your natural teeth. Specifically, it’s made to match the shape, size, and color of your surrounding teeth.

Dr. Igor Ochev has been honored six times as Best Esthetic Dentist and four times as Best Dentist in Pacific Sun’s “Best of Marin” Readers’ Poll.

What is a dental crown, exactly?

Essentially, a dental crown is a cap that encases the entire surface of a tooth, restoring it to its original shape and size. It protects and strengthens a tooth that cannot be restored with a filling, inlay, or onlay.

Highly durable, a porcelain crown will enhance your smile for many years. And as with most dental restorations, it is not always permanent and may need to be replaced someday due to normal wear.

6 Reasons for Dental Crowns

Restore a decayed tooth

Restore a broken or fractured tooth

Restore a fractured filling

Restore a tooth with a root canal

GETTING A DENTAL CROWN
What to Expect

Getting a crown usually requires two appointments with us because it’s custom-made in a dental lab. We’ll take highly accurate impressions to create your temporary and new crowns. You’ll wear your temporary one for approximately two weeks while the lab creates your new one.

Your Visit

While your tooth is numb, Dr. Ochev gently removes the damage and shapes the surface to properly fit your crown. After he takes a digital scan, he places your temporary crown with temporary cement and ensures that you’re bite is right.

Your Second Visit

Dr. Ochev gently removes your temporary crown, cleans your tooth, and carefully places your new crown to ensure the spacing and your bite are accurate.

Caring for Your New Dental Crown

You’ll receive care instructions at the end of your treatment. If you have any questions, please give us a call. By brushing, flossing, and eating well and staying on track with your regular checkups with us, you’ll aid in the life of your new crown.
