Dentures
DR. IGOR OCHEV, SAN RAFAEL DENTIST

“Are dentures the best choice for me?”

We use dentures to replace your missing teeth and surrounding gum tissue. Because traditional dentures are removable, you may prefer them over fixed bridges, fixed dentures, and dental implants. You might need one for your upper arch, lower arch, or both.

Custom-made, dentures give you the look and feel of your natural teeth and gums, help you chew and speak better, and improve your facial features.

3 Reasons for Dentures

Replace some or all your missing teeth in an arch

Improve your chewing, speech, and digestion

Enhance your smile and facial tissues

Partial Dentures

We can make partial dentures for you if still have some healthy natural teeth. They’re held in place by clasps that hook onto your teeth for stability. Not only do they fill in the spaces created by your missing teeth, but prevent your other teeth from shifting.

Full Dentures

Also called complete dentures, we make them to replace all of your missing teeth and the surrounding gum tissue. You might need a denture for one arch or both. There are two types of full dentures:

Conventional Dentures

This type of denture is made after your teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has healed, usually taking 4 to 6 weeks. During this time, you’ll go without teeth.

Immediate Dentures

This type of denture is made in advance. Because it’s placed immediately after your teeth are removed, you won’t have to go without teeth during the healing process. Once the tissues shrink and heal, Dr. Ochev will make adjustments.

A denture, whether partial or full, is very durable and will last many years, but may have to be readjusted, repaired, or replaced someday due to normal wear.

GETTING DENTURES
What to Expect

The process of getting a denture requires several appointments us, usually over several weeks — they’re custom-made for you in a dental lab, and we fine-tune the fit for you.

Your Visits

At your first visit, Dr. Ochev takes highly accurate impressions and measurements to create your custom denture. At your “try-in” visit, he examines it for the proper shape and color, and adjust the fit. At your final visit, he fine-tunes the adjustment even more to ensure a fit that feels natural and comfortable.

What to Expect After

As your muscles and gums get used to your new denture, you may experience increased saliva, some soreness, or speech and chewing difficulty —  these conditions are temporary and will subside.

Caring for Your New Denture

You’ll receive care instructions at the end of your treatment. Please reach out to us if you have any questions. Proper cleaning will extend the life of your new dentures — so will good oral hygiene at home and regular dental checkups with us.
